KE7GYQ

The AZ QSO party took place last weekend, and it was a great success for the people who participated. I know that I learned a lot and had fun operating. At times I was overwhelmed with traffic.  It was the most intense radio experience that I've had.

I arrived at Michael's place at 8:30 AM. We operated until Frank came by at 11:00. We must of made about 200 contacts on 20 meter phone. One right after the other. Lots of traffic. When I came back at 5:00 pm, the place was still hopping. Things didn't calm down until 7:00, I finally went home around 9:00.

Michael helped me out a lot. He's a good mentor. This was my first contest where I held a frequency and did not operate search and pounce. I had a short script that had different options that I could quickly refer to in order to keep me on track when the traffic got heavy. It was quite the rush.

I spoke with Larry, David and Dennis, We all had a great time.

Thank you Michael for hosting W7SA and the Arizona QSO Party !!

The CQ WW phone contest is coming up at the end of the month October 24, 25  http://www.cqww.com/ Given the good time that we had with the QSO party, I'd like to see our club operate in this contest. I'd like to operate from our shack on campus, and have our beam in order. Perhaps we can discuss this at our next general meeting. I hope that more people can join for this event.

Aye, laddie!!  A good time was had by all.

June especially got into the adrenaline rush of pile-ups!  Michael wrote a script for her to follow, including "QSL" in <large> letters so we could point to it when appropriate!!  She got bumbled up once, told the contact this was her first time on the radio, and the gent on the other end said "Don't worry, I was a new op too, about 55 years ago" and we all laffed!!

Needless to say, after working 60+ contacts, she was pooped but high!  Michael and I finished out with ~1200 contacts, and lots of fun.  Let's do this one again!!!

My sentiments exactly!  My two hours at the mike were exhausting but a lot of fun.  Apparently Mike's station was good and loud in the eastern US, which was the open area at that time.  I've run stations before for a while but was never was part of holding a frequency hour after hour -- I don't think the callers were ever less than six deep.  Hopefully that activity will also mean visibility for the AZ QSO party.

One example:  On Sunday afternoon I cranked up my QRP rig, tuned around, and heard W7SA/K7HIL.  I called and called and called but never got through even though we are only a couple of miles apart.  'SA always came back to someone else.  Surely QRP isn't that bad; it usually eventually gets through, I thought.  Well, due to some changes at the homestead, my rig is in one room and the antenna enters the house in another, joined by some cables through the attic.  I only later realized that I had disconnected the antenna end when I left on my EI trip and never reattached it!  Apparently you didn't even need an antenna to copy W7SA/K7HIL!  Come to think of it, the fillings in my teeth felt a little tingly this weekend...

Looking forward to more joint ops.

73,
Frank, N7FG

I will second everyone's comments.  I had a great time and I thought that the W7SA station made a lot of contacts the entire time that I was at Mike's, except for about a half hour while we had Pizza.
I want to thank Mike and his wife for hosting the W7SA station for the weekend and making me feel comfortable in their home.    Thanks to everyone who participated.

KE7NVA

Thanks for a fun party.

K0ABC

Skunked by La Paz! Found every other county, but La Paz eluded me. I worked numerous operators in Mohave and Yuma counties - next year one of them should take a road trip to Parker, I'm sure they'd be a very popular station. Big thumbs up to KS7S for cruising mobile around eastern AZ activating rare counties (THANKS for Greenlee!). Pleasantly surprised how many stations were on the air from places other than Maricopa and Pima. I'm an AZ native so I had a blast this weekend working Arizona, looking forward to next year!

KA1WPM

Thanks!  It was fun!

K7WIN

The contest was great. I had a great time and I enjoyed the excitement.

K7DTB

The contest was a lot of fun, I am look forward to next years AZQP.  The mode I really operated was PSK31.

K7RDG

Great contest.  Would only suggest that AZ stations be more active on 40/80 so AZ stations have the opportunity to work other AZ stations.  Again thanks for sponsoring the AZ QSO Party.  Great to have it back on the air.

N4ARO

Special thknks to all who made the party a success. Look forward to next year. If propagation were better should be able to work more guys.

WA7HDZ

THANKS FOR THE PARTY...SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!!

K9CW

Activity was a bit limited.  My only question is whether or not KS7S covered all of the AZ counties over the weekend?
