Only had a few hours this weekend, so I tried a new challenge - working as a SO4C station - that's Single Op, 4 Contests, all at the same time.  It was interesting to learn how to switch logs as I did S&P across the bands.  Not much on 20 from AZ here, except W7SA who was my first QSO and 100 bonus points.  AZ is just too close for the skip on 20.  40 was much better.  Only heard a few stations on 80.  Next year I'll try to get on longer after dark.  Only running 100 watts and a wire antenna, so 40/80 are best for me anyway.

I meet my goal for this event, so I guess it was a success. A few things were frustrating. One, the GenLog was using full AZ county abbreviations like  AZAPHH, as a mult, which being an in state op, is not counted....which I think it should. Rule change soon? It would make the event more fun for us in state guys to hunt for counties too.  Anyway, I had to go back through the log and clean up all of the full "AZXXX" and remove the callsign dupes to make the proper mult count and correct QSO count (making only 1 QSO). Secondly, I find it very frustrating that DX on 15 will not come up on your call to work you.  I could scan down the band on 15 and hear DX, not very loud, but workable, calling "CQ" and working their own little pile-ups. But once you set-up on a freq and call "CQAZQP"; forget about it! I would call 10 or 15 minutes at a time on 15 with no entries. Then, out of the blue would pop up a DX! Even stateside contacts were few and far between. I learned that I spent to much time on 15, but how else are you to get DX multis or work a station on a second or third band?  This is not unique to AZQP. I have noticed this while participating in several QSO parties as well. Anyway, that being said, I should have about 10 more multis in my log. I only had 2 more then I did last year (70) which was disappointing. It was fun working the other AZ counties. I worked 11 counties in all and swept all 50 states within 10 hours of the event with CO being my last. 20 seemed not good as last year, but proved to be the band of choice with 73% of my activity on it followed by 40 meters at 13%, 80 meters at 9% and 15 meters 5%.  Again, if AZ stations could count for mutlt's I would spend more time on 40 and 75 I think tryin' to hunt them down.  It was good hearing Dan, N7IA just a few miles from me to pick up the rare Apache and Greenlee!  I ran an FT-1000D into a W5GI at about 90 feet from our summer cabin outside Alpine. Fun as always, and look foward to next year.

I am not sure who came up with the idea of the significant date but that was a GREAT IDEA!!!  I had many ask and I got to tell a little about how the (dwarf) PLANET was discovered at Lowell Observatory here in Flagstaff!  Many positive comments from those I worked in the party!  NICE JOB GUYS!!!!!

In celebration of the new multi-multi and power category additions this year we decided to do a M/M QRP entry.  Several had never done QRP before and were appropriately impressed with it.  Not too concerned with activating Maricopa County but since we operated from a remote location 'away from home' I suppose we are also somehow in the Expedition category.  73, John, WA7NWL.

I got on Saturday for a little while, but I found it too unpleasant to continue. The people who do all the work to administer a QSO party get to set the rules, and that is as it should be.  However, I found the rules got in the way of me having fun.
